Program Description: YAR at the Crisis Center, governed by a youth-adult advisory board, and supported by local funders, provides mini-grants ranging from $40 to $400 to local youth groups who initiate and carry out a community service project or event that tackles a social problem or assists development. From health, housing, education and the environment, to drug abuse, gangs, illiteracy and crime--YAR advisory board members, funders, and project participants enjoy a fun service learning experience.
Program Eligibility: Youth and adults Ages 9 and up can serve on the Advisory Committee. Grant applicants must consist of youth groups, affiliated with a 501(C)3 organization.
Next Grant Screening: Fall 2008 (our August grant screening has been postponed).
Click here (.pdf) to download printable YAR grant guidelines & application in adobe reader. However, the May grant screening is now closed; no additional money is available for grants this cycle.
CONGRATULATIONS: Calumet Council Boys Scout: $400 grant won at May 2008 screening for attending Scoutapalloza (view Michigamea lodge website here). Ivanhoe Elementary School: $400 grant won for "Junior master
Remember, the grant application must be completed in full and submitted at least 3 days before the screening meeting. Groups applying for grants MUST attend the grant screening and make a brief presentation on their proposal. Groups can wait for a decision on the money after the meeting. The screening is informal, and remember, TEENS are the ones who decide on the money, so it's a fun and interesting experience.
Volunteers Needed: YES; energetic, committed teens to gain experience, have fun, and serve on the YAR Advisory Committee. Meetings & events held only once a month, and always in Lake County to make it convenient.
Food always served!
